~What Cut Flower is That?~

The Essential Care and Handling Guide
for
Cut Flower Professionals

This book was initially created on request by RIRDC, (The Rural Industries Rural Industry Corporation, now trading as Agrifutures) to support the Australian Wildflower industry.

It was recognised that there was an enormous gap in accurate information available with many misunderstandings identified across the floristry industry, especially in the identification, and care and handling practices of Australian native and their related South African species of wildflowers, grown and marketed in Australia and recognised as Australian Wildflowers.

Del Thomas was approached, and she advised that this project needed to be broadened to cover traditional, tropical, orchids and foliages. This was agreed, the funding allocated, and Bettina Gollnow was invited as co-author to bring her expertise, gained from many years as the Cut Flowers extension officer, in the Department of Agriculture and from the Australian Wildflowers industry on board.

Bettina enlisted the help of post-harvest experts, Dr John Farrager and Daryl Joyce to share their knowledge and expertise to ensure that this book is the ultimate reference guide with the most accurate and up to date information available.

Written by Delwyn Thomas and Bettina Gollnow, both professionals in their fields, Edition 1.0 was first published in conjunction with the Australian Government's Rural Industries Research & Development Corporation (RIRDC) to educate members of the wider floristry and flower growing industry.

Considerable thought and planning went into the design and presentation for easy, user-friendly access to key topics and this information is presented in an easy to reference format.  ‘What Cut Flower is That?’ is widely recognised as the essential training, purchasing, and marketing resource. Recommended by floristry teachers for their students, senior florists, and business owners as an elementary training necessity, from the novice through to senior industry professionals.

Originally funded by the RIRDC, now trading as Agrifutures Australia, this book rapidly became the essential study resource for TAFE and other private floristry training colleges. All the hard copies of Edition 1.0 have been sold and are no longer available; however, the authors have secured the rights to the Digital version which will shortly be available.

With Agrifutures Australia no longer supporting projects for the cut flower industry and to continue availability, the authors secured an exclusive license agreement with Agrifutures to self-publish, market, advertise and distribute ‘What Cut Flower is That?’.

They have prepared a new fully revised and updated Edition 2.0. Planned to be available in June 202, it will be available in hard copy and as a Digital Download (E-Book).

Please bookmark this website for updates on when it will become available.
